CHENNAI: The alliance scene for the forthcoming elections to the local bodies remained hazy on Saturday with all parties going into a huddle, while the ruling AIADMK went ahead and announced its nominees for 52 municipalities. A day after announcing mayoral candidates, AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday announced her party’s nominees for 52 municipalities.
One-third of these candidates , 17 in all, are women.
Finance Minister O Panneerselvam’s brother O Raja has been fielded as the party’s nominee for Periyakulam municipality. There are five former MLAs in the list - Mythili Thirunavukkarasu (Kancheepuram municipality), K Bhavani Karunakaran (Arakkonam), Durai Aranganathan (Vriddhachalam), KC Karuppanan (Bhavani) and Prof Karpagam Ilangovan (Karaikudi).

Talks wxith Left Today
The talks scheduled for Saturday between the seat-sharing committees for local bodies formed by the AIADMK, the CPI and the CPM did not take place. CPM State secretary G Ramakrishnan said the talks would continue on Sunday. Meanwhile, hectic discussions were on at the DMDK headquarters amid rumours that the party might tie up with the Congress. Party founder Vijayakant, senior leaders, including Panruti S Ramachandran and others, took part in the deliberations.
Cong Brainstorming
The Congress leaders too went into a huddle at Satyamurthi Bhavan in the presence of party’s all India secretary KP Krishnamurthi. TNCC president K V Thangkabalu, senior leaders of the party E V K S Elangovan, S R Balasubramanian, S Thirunavukkarasu, Peter Alphonse, MLAs Vijayadharani, John Jacob and JG Prince took part.
MMK and AISMK said they would hold seat-sharing talks with the AIADMK.
