CHENNAI: The State Council of the CPM on Saturday announced its nominees for elections to the local bodies while the CPI will announce its stand on Sunday.The first list announced by CPI State secretary G Ramakrishnan included nominees for four corporations - Madurai (R Jothiram), Tirupur (K Kamaraj @Subramaniyan), Vellore (G Latha) and Coimbatore (U K Sivagnanam) and 109 wards in six districts - Chennai, Tuticorin, Salem, Vellore, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Tirupur.He also announced nominees for 17 municipalities - Kovilpatti, Palani, Jayankondam, Nelliyazham, Thuvakkudi, Sivaganga, Anakaputhur, Kuzhithurai, Padmanabhapuram, Mettur, Tiruvallur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Pattukottai, Vikramasingapuram, Puliyankudi, Cumbum and Palladam and 48 town panchayats and for the post of district panchayat ward councillors in 16 districts.Meanwhile, CPI State secretary D Pandian told mediapersons after the meeting of the State Council here that the party would announce its decision on Sunday. He said the candidates of the party were ready and would file their nomination papers at an appropriate time.Even as the meeting of the State Council meeting was on, the party got an invitation from the AIADMK for further talks. Following this, the members of the seat-sharing committee rushed to Poes Garden and held interactions for a couple of hours.CPI sources said though the final agreement was yet to be reached, some progress was made during Saturday talks. As the offer of the AIADMK was not fully satisfactory, party leaders will hold another round of talks.Meanwhile, DMDK founder Vijayakant announced the party’s nominees for 27 municipalities and for the post of councillors in districts panchayat boards in six districts - Tiruvallur, Dharmapuri, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Villupuram and Cuddalore.The PMK also went ahead with announcing party nominees for 103 wards in Chennai, 19 municipalities and 43 town panchayats in various districts.
