TNERC to determine tariff: CM

CHENNAI: The Chief Minister said that Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) would determine tariffs on its own even if TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) did not seek a revision, in keeping with the order of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity. She clarified to DMDK legislator SR Parthiban’s view that people were apprehensive about an impending hike in power tariff and CPI(M) member K Balakrishnan’s observation that the TNERC would not hike the tariff if the TANGEDCO had not petitioned seeking the same. Citing the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity’s order of July 28, 2011 that regulations were violated [by the erstwhile TNEB] in the matter of filing Annual Revenue Requirement petition, she said that the authority had mandated the petitions on both tariff revision and ARR to be filed annually by State electricity corporations.The Tribunal said that the State Regulatory Commission should suo moto initiate proceedings for tariff revision
