TNOU to remain headless for some more time as panel has to find V-C

The Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU), Chennai, will remain without a head for some more time as the Governor-Chancellor has directed the Higher Education Department to reconstitute the Vice Chancellor (V-C) Search Committee and start the selection process afresh. Sources said that the previous search committee had submitted its shortlist of three names to the Governor’s office. However, one of those shortlisted was recently appointed V-C of another State university. Therefore, Governor K Rosaiah has asked the State Government to reconstitute the search committee. After the tenure of the previous TNOU V-C A Kalyani had ended earlier this year, the Higher Education Department had on April 13 constituted a search committee comprising former Mother Teresa Women’s University V-C Anandhavalli Mahadevan, former Madurai Kamaraj University V-C M Lakshmanan and former Alagappa University V-C P Kanniappan. “The government and syndicate nominee have been finalised. Once the Governor’s nominee is named, we will form the new committee,” Minister for Higher Education P Palaniappan told Express.
