BANGALORE: Traders may be get electronic refund (e-refund) from next years, Commercial Tax Commissioner Pradeep Singh Kharola said. Speaking at a workshop on e-sugam, e-payment and e-filing at Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) on Tuesday, Kharola said that the number of people using e-Sugam is nearing 90 per cent.“The department is working towards providing an SMS update of e-Sugam accounts to customers once a day. The  risk of misuse has also increased now,” he stated and urged the entrepreneurs to protect their e-Sugam passwords. "E-refunds are possible if more number of traders utilise e-Sugam facility,” he told the members of the association who raised concerns over the delays in payments.Stating that the government is working on a software for smooth facilitation of e-sugam at a much higher scale, he said that the first target group would be exporters. He spoke about the usage of technological advances in the field. Over one lakh delivery notes are being printed every day by traders. Terming e-sugam as a ‘self policing’ measure, he said its increased usage would ensure more transparency. He also clarified that only the e-sugam number is sufficient in check posts across the State. “We save nealy two tonnes of paper a day as we don’t have to print the e-sugam numbers,” he said.
