BANGALORE: The land, along with building, from where the Technical Training Centre for the Deaf (TTCD) is operating, is provided on lease for 50 years to Reach Out Educational Employment Trust for disabled underprivileged women and children by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). However, the trust has illegally given a portion of the land on sub-lease for opening up a non-vegetarian catering centre and another portion for storing timber to the nearby residents.Speaking to Express, Fayaz who has taken a portion of land on sub-lease and already started the construction for the catering centre said, “I did not know that the land belongs to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. For the past three years, I am residing in the next lane. I have already given Rs 1.5 lakhs to Williams G, one of the managing trustees .”“It was only when we were putting up the shed a week ago, the teachers here told me a that the land comes under BBMP and we cannot operate from the premises. When I went and asked back my amount, Williams said that she will return but till date she has not turned up,” Fayaz said.Prasanna R, the principal, TTCD, for the past ten years said, “The trust has been running the institute since 2001. For the past six-seven years, we have been giving the quotation for the required equipment to the trust but they are not getting any new equipment.”Meanwhile, when Express contacted deputy mayor S Harish, he said, “We have not received any information about it. Once we get the complaint, we will take immediate action against the responsible and cancel the lease of the Reach Out Educational Employment Trust for Disabled Underprivileged Women and Children.”
