Chennai: In a twist to the Jet Airways air hostess death, a post-mortem of her highly decomposed body has revealed that her death was due to 'suffocation or strangulation', indicating that she had been murdered.
The post-mortem of air hostess Shilpa's boyfriend Jayanth, whose body was also found decomposed in the same apartment in suburban Tiruvanmiyur here, is being conducted on Saturday, police said.
The report was expected to unravel the mystery behind the two deaths, which came to light on Thursday night.
However, police say that there was evidence that Jayanth could have murdered Shilpa under the influence of alcohol and then committed suicide on Monday last.
The highly decomposed bodies the two were recovered by the police from their flat in south Chennai on Friday.
The police said the two had died four days earlier.
According to reports, Shilpa's body was found lying on the bed of her Valmiki Nagar flat late Thursday with a rope around her neck and Jayant was found hanging from the ceiling. Further, the room in which they were found was locked from inside.
Shilpa's parents had reportedly contacted the police after she failed to answer her phone for the past four days. They rushed to her flat, only to find it locked from inside.
Police suspect that Jayant could have murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself. They, however, did not rule out suicide by both the deceased.
The two were reportedly living together in the two-bedroom flat.
