New Delhi: The number of suicide cases continue to pile up in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra as reeling under agrarian crisis, two more debt-ridden farmers ended their life on Monday.
Thirty-five year old Vijay Pawar, resident of village Rohna in Manora taluka of Washim district in Maharashtra killed himself after constant crop failure and debt trap.
Pawar was a member of the gram-panchayat and leaves behind his wife, two sons and two daughters.
In the second incident, a farmer from village Lakhi under Pusad taluka of Yavatmal district committed suicide due to debt trap.
More than 1,200 farmers, involved in cotton growing alone, are reported to have committed suicide in Vidarbha over the last one year.
But even after high-profile visits by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, there's little change in the situation.
It's still a bitter wait for farmers after the harvest, among many corrupt officials.
