Rampur (Uttar Pradesh): Former BJP leader Uma Bharti on Thursday slammed her then party colleague and former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh for not revealing the name of the "mole" in the Prime Minister's Office, saying "hiding the name of an anti-national was a bigger sin".
"Treason is a sin but hiding one who commits it is a bigger sin," the chief of the newly-floated Bhartiya Janshakti Party said while addressing a gathering comprising mostly former BJP activists.
Accusing the BJP of deviating from the ideals of Shyama Prasad Mukherji and Deen Dayal Upadhaya, Bharti said the party encouraged "anti-national elements who showered praises at the memorial of Jinnah who demanded creation of states on religious grounds," in an apparent reference to senior BJP leader L K Advani.
"During my travel from Delhi to Rampur, I came across slogans on the walls demanding creation of a separate state within Uttar Pradesh on the basis of religion,” she said adding that it might not have happened had the BJP preferred to stand firmly on the Ram temple issue.
She said separatist forces began rearing their heads as BJP and Samajwadi Party have adopted a similar course.
Lashing out at UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh, she said he was "patronising anti-national forces like SIMI."
Terming BJP as "opportunist" and BSP as "one spreading poison of casteism," she warned that these forces had to be "crushed" by the electorate or else their future would be very bleak.
