The Maggi row has intensified after all states and union territories have been asked to test the samples of Maggi.

New Delhi: What has now turned into a full blown controversy, started with a routine check of samples from a retailer 15 months ago in Barabanki. High levels of lead and MSG were found in the sample of Maggi that was picked by Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) officer VK Pandey.

40-year-old pandey had earlier taken on food giants like Britannia for wrong labelling on a product.

The Maggi row has intensified after all states and union territories have been asked to test the samples of Maggi.

As Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal joined several states in lifting Maggi noodle samples for laboratory tests, there was some good news for Nestle India from Maharashtra Kerala and Goa.

The Maharashtra government said there have been no negative reports about the samples tested by it so far while a Goa official said the samples drawn from state's markets did not have any ingredients which are harmful.

Maggi has been banned in Delhi and Nestle has been asked to withdraw all the stock within 15 days. The decision came after Delhi Health Department was not satisfied with explanation of Nestle India given to authorities on finding "lead beyond permissible limit” in the noodle samples lifted from across the city.

Nestle India has claimed it has got samples tested in an external laboratory as well as in-house and that the product was found "safe to eat".
