Her cheery disposition and natty dressing made her the obvious choice for roles requiring a young, sprightly and even childish actor. After Sachin and Santosh Subramaniyam, it seemed like Genelia was willing to be pigeonholed with such roles. But with her performance as the Princess of Arakkal in Urumi, Genelia seems to have silenced critics with a sword.

“Urumi was the break that I was looking for,” confesses the actor, who is currently in Mumbai. Agreeing that her Kollywood stint involved a lot of commercial roles, Genelia says the opportunity to do something different, especially in a film by an acclaimed filmmaker Santosh Sivan, got her excited.

And that is how Urumi happened,” she says. For the period film, Genelia walked the extra mile and underwent training in horse riding and wielding the sword.

So is she doing any movie in Tamil now? “None at the moment, but I’m waiting to do different, exciting roles. It’s an added advantage for me that I know the language,” she says. Currently, the actor is only working on a film with Abhay Deol, titled Rock the Star.
