KOCHI: The probe into the Varappuzha sex scam has hit a roadblock as the police are finding it hard to nab the accused who are absconding.Though the investigation has been extended to other states following the arrest of Sobha John, no headway could be made after that.According to sources in the police, a list of 15 accused, who played a major role in the case, had been prepared and handed over to the police in other states.“We have arrested more than 60 people in connection with the case. We have prepared a list of 15 people who are absconding. Most of them are not in the state. The major hurdle in the investigation is that the police in other states are not taking up the issue seriously. Though a request was sent in October, no proper action has been taken until now. The 15 people are the allies of Sobha John and are active in flesh trade in other states. With the arrest of these people the investigation will almost be over,” the sources said. The term of the police team investigating the sex scandal case was extended after revelations by Sobha John that she had 10 agents in and outside the state for selling girls. Sobha had also said that she received a maximum of `25,000 from the customers. The police are also investigating the possibility of a nexus between the sex racket and the fake currency mafia in the state. Circle Inspector George Joseph, the investigation officer, said that if the police in other states take strict action, the probe can be finished within a few months. “We have arrested the accused who were in Kerala. The rest are out of the state. We are waiting for the police there to arrest these people. The delay on their part will delay the case further,” George Joseph said.
