KOCHI: The Diocese of Varapuzha has come up with a noble mission to help the ailing people in society to find organ donors. Archbishop Francis Kallarakal inaugurated the mission on Monday by signing the consent to donate his organs, following which 180 priests under the diocese gave consent to donate their organs. The venture has been launched as a part of the 125th anniversary of the diocese. The Society for Organ Retrieval and Transplantation (SORT), Kochi, will execute the transplantation procedures for the diocese. People struggling for life can find a donor by contacting the organisation. The diocese will facilitate organ-transplant process directly for the members of parishes coming under it. Awareness programmes will be conducted to spread the message ‘Organ donation an act of love’ for encouraging people to come forward to donate organs. Awareness will be spread through the parishes, Kudumbashree units and self-help groups. “The kind hearted mission initiated by the priests of Varapuzha Diocese is a milestone in the field of organ transplantation. It will be a an inspiration to society. Jesus had sacrificed his blood and flesh to humanity. “The priests should emulate him at least by stretching a helping hand hand to the people who are suffering from organ failures,” said the Archbishop. Kochouseph Chittilappilly, the managing director of the V-Guard Industries Ltd, and Davis Chiramel, founder director, Kidney Federation of India, shared their experiences of donating kidney. “They pointed out that prominent people in society should come forward to donate their organs, which will inspire others to opt for the noble cause”. The Archbishop handed over certificates to all the signatories who agreed to donate their organs.
