CHENNAI: Veteran Congress leader A R Marimuthu died of cardiac arrest at a hospital here today, family sources said.Marimuthu, 86, is survived by four sons and three daughters.Beginning his political carrier with the now defunct Praja Socialist party, Marimuthu was elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly from Pattukottai in 1957 and re-elected for four more terms later.He joined the Congress in 1970 and was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party in 1980.Marimuthu was a close associate of late Congress leader G K Moopanar.The funeral would take place at his native village Alathur near Pattukottai in Thanjavur district tomorrow, his son M Govindarajan said.Union shipping Minister G K Vasan and DMK President M Karunanidhi condoled the death of Marimuthu.Vasan placed a wreath on the body of the late leader at the hospital before it was taken to Pattukottai.
