HYDERABAD: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumanth Rao has urged the party high command to take action against 16 Congress MLAs who violated the whip and voted for the no-confidence motion against the government in the Assembly.Addressing a press conference here on Saturday,he said the AICC leadership should not waste time but take immediate action against the 16 party MLAs for defiance. “Had the party taken disciplinary action against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the beginning, the 16 MLAs would not have got emboldened to cross the party line,’’ he said, adding that the party should, at least now, take action the MLAs and get ready for by-elections. He said he would also take an active part in electioneering. He said he had discussed the matter cief mnister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and would convey opinion to the high command as weel.He said in reply to a question that he did not know what role Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao was playing in state politics but he surely failed to protect the party’s interests in the state. “If KVP has any grip on state politics, why has he failed to prevent the 16 MLAs from voting against the Congress government in the Assembly?” he wondered. Rao attributed the decline in Congress’ status to neglect of BC leaders and promotion of one particular community. The situation had come to such a pass that it might have to run a coalition government to stay in power, he said. No party would have a political future in the state if it neglected the Backward Castes, he warned. He urged the chief minister to fill the nominated posts and wanted  the party leadership to give necessary directions to him. Filling the nominated posts should not be linked with other issues or cabinet expansion, he said.“The Jaganmohan Reddy issue is over and the party leadership should concentrate on Telangana now to be able to face the 2014 elections.’’Referring to the Emaar Properties sacm case, Rao said Koneru Prasad should reveal everything so that the CBI could catch the main culprits. “Transactions worth `800 crore took place in the APIIC-Emaar project but Prasad revealed details of only deals worth `30 crore. He should come out on the role of others, including KVP, in the scam to make them also face inquiry,’’ the MP said.
