THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vilappil panchayat committee that met here for an emergency meeting on Thursday decided to stick to its decision to check any move by the City Corporation to send garbage trucks to the Vilappilsala waste treatment plant following the stay ordered by the State Government on the closure of the plant by the panchayat. ‘’We have still not received any official communication regarding the stay on the closure of the treatment plant. Any future decision would be taken only after receiving the communication. But if the Corporation decides to act on the basis of the so-called stay order, then we will block the trucks from our village border itself,’’ Vilappil Panchayat president Shobana Kumari said. However, the City Corporation is awaiting the go-ahead from the government to either open the plant or take the garbage to the plant. ‘’We will wait for an official communication and would not jump into any conflict with the government or the panchayat now. Though, we are for the opening the treatment plant,’’ said a top Corporation official. Meanwhile, the landfilling of garbage is moving in a slow pace due to resistance from locals at many places. It has also come to the notice of the Corporation that many residents are dumping garbage on the outskirts of the city. In the absence of a proper action plan, the Corporation has its hands tied from taking action against the garbage-dumpers.
