THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader and KPCC spokesman M M Hassan has demanded the resignation of Leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan following the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau’s recommendation to include him as the first accused in the case of allotting land to his relative Soman, in Kasargod when he was the Chief Minister. “V S who assumes himself as the crusader against corruption should resign on moral grounds if he is sincere in his struggle against corruption,” said Hassan at a press meet here on Thursday. Hassan said that the Vigilance recommendation was not on the basis of statements but on facts. Achuthanandan did abuse his power in favour of his relative by allotting 2.33 acres of land violating rules, while there are lakhs of landless people in the state, he said. “With the recommendation to include V S as an accused in the case, an idol of anti-corruption fight has been destroyed. Response of VS, that the recommendation is politically motivated, is an outcome of mental stress,” said Hassan. “Selection to board, corporation chairman’s posts will be completed before the Piravom bypoll,” Hassan said.
