Waste Management: Public Convention held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Not just the City Corporation but the public and residents’ associations also have a vital role in arriving at a solid waste management mechanism for the city. This was the message that the public convention organised by the City Corporation at the VJT hall here on Thursday, to introduce its new decentralised waste management to the public, tried to convey. Inaugurating the convention, Speaker G Karthikeyan said that, ‘’flats, like  households, must arrive at a common mechanism to deal with the waste generated.’’ Mayor K Chandrika said that, ‘’it is up to the people to own up the waste management mechanism if the city has to be kept clean.’’The representatives of various residents’ associations pledged support to the new programme. Transport Minister V S Sivakumar delivered the keynote address. Standing Committee chairpersons and councillors along with voluntary organisations took part in the convention.
