KOCHI: Forty-three councillors from Thrikkakara Municipality have vehemently protested against the way in which the Kochi Corporation is transporting waste. The councillors, along with the municipal chairman, stopped the waste-laden vehicles at Chembumukku. They also demanded the transportation of three truckloads of garbage from Thrikkakara municipality to the Brahmapuram Waste Treatment Plant."The Kochi Corporation transports 60 truckloads of waste to the Brahmapuram plant. The vehicles usually pass through the Thrikkakara municipality and as they are not properly covered, the waste and filthy water from it spill over to the road."We have been tolerating this for quite a long time," Thrikkakara municipal chairman P A Muhammad Ali said."We have brought the Mayor's attention to the callousness and he has promised to take necessary measures," he said.Responding to the protest by Thrikkakara Municipality, Mayor Tony Chammany said: "I will look into the matter soon. I have decided to bring it up at the next council meeting."But the the Opposition demanded that Mayor Tony Chammany should convene a meeting at the earliest to take a decision on the issue."The Mayor was vague in his reply to our demands.
