HYDERABAD: A woman died after a minaret of the Nizamia Tibbi hospital in the Old City collapsed and fell on her on Sunday.The incident occurred near the parking lot on the left side of the main entrance of the hospital.The victim, Sheen Bai, (50), belonged to Balki village in Bidar district, Karnataka.She came to the city to get her husband, Babu Rao, treated for paralysis.According to police, Sheena was taking nap at a ‘chabutra’ after having her lunch when almost half of the minaret collapsed and she died instantly.Moghulpura police inspector Syed Fayyaz said the minaret made of limestone might have collapsed being weakened by frequent rubbing of branches of trees nearby it.Her husband was admitted to the hospital a week ago while Sheena was staying at her relative’s place at Mochi Colony near Zoo Park and commuting to the hospital daily.A case has been registered.There have been several complaints from patients about likelihood of roof collapse, police said.The Nizamia Tibbi hospital, also known as Unani government hospital, was constructed during the Nizam era and is one of the oldest buildings.The structure is reportedly maintained by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
