Vancouver: A woman gave birth to six babies at a hospital in Vancouver, the first time sextuplets are believed to have been born in Canada, local media reported on Monday.
British Columbia Women's Hospital declined to confirm or deny the births of what media reports said were four boys and two girls weighing on average 800 grams (1.8 pounds) each.
"They're very tiny, but all six are alive," the Province newspaper cited an unidentified hospital source as saying.
The infants, who were born prematurely at about six and a half months' gestation, were all delivered by Caesarean section except for one, the reports said.
Sextuplet births are rare although fertility treatments have increased the frequency of multiple births.
In October, twin girls conjoined at the head were born at BC Women's Hospital.
