KOTTAYAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday said that the government would take the youth into confidence before taking any decision on increasing the retirement age of government employees.Inaugurating the Kerala Gazetted Officers’ Union (KGOU)) state conference here,  Chandy said a unilateral decision by the government would not do good to anyone. Raising of retirement age would benefit 25,000 employees, but it should be noted that there are 40 lakh unemployed youths in the state, he said.    This does not mean that the government is against the demand of the KGOU. He reminded that there are leaders who had landed in trouble after making announcements to get public applause. He dismissed reports that the government was planning to freeze some posts in the government sector. After failing in its efforts to paint the government black using LDF nominees in the PSC, the Opposition has now come out with the report about freezing of the posts, he said. The LDF government had failed to send 22,000 advise memos despite 49,100 vacancies in the government departments. The UDF Govt has taken steps to send advise memos to all the posts which were withheld by the previous government, he said. The delegates’ meeting was inaugurated by KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala. He said time has come to fulfil the promises made in the UDF manifesto to bring the wages of the state government employees on a par with that of the Central government employees.
