British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, like many of us, has shared his least favourite household chores in a recent interview with Grazia magazine. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murthy, revealed that he dislikes taking out the garbage and cleaning the house.
In the interview, Rishi Sunak said that he loves making the bed, mentioning it as his favourite task. He mentioned how coming home from the office to find the bed neat gives him a sense of satisfaction. Akshata, on the other hand, said that she is not an early riser and doesn’t have the habit of making the bed.
Rishi Sunak recalled an incident from their early days together when he found Akshata eating in bed, which he found annoying. Akshata admitted that she used to eat on her bed during her studies, and the British PM seemed unhappy with her habit. During the interview, Rishi Sunak also revealed that loading the dishwasher is another chore he enjoys. He mentioned that even if Akshata takes care of it, he would happily do it himself.
However, the interview has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some finding it unusual to hear about the UK’s richest prime minister and his billionaire wife discussing household chores.
Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murthy met while studying at Stanford University, and according to Akshata, her husband has been particular about cleanliness since then. She also mentioned that both of them prioritise cleanliness and share responsibilities, especially now as parents of two children. Akshata shared that she is strict when it comes to their children’s school, homework and reading, ensuring everything is done properly.
In the interview, Akshata said that Rishi Sunak is a better cook. He added due to his busy schedule he only gets time on Saturday to make breakfast. In their free time, Rishi Sunak and Akshata enjoy watching episodes of the TV series Friends before going to sleep.
