Restaurant Review: Dhaba, The Claridges
As Dhaba brings several lip-smacking food items to the menu, it succeeds in ensuring guests have enough reasons to feast even while fasting.

Agreed, there aren't too many dishes that you can gorge on while fasting during Navratri. But there is definitely one place that dishes out interesting food during the most pious festive period. As Dhaba, at The Clardiges, brings several lip-smacking food items to the menu, it succeeds in ensuring guests have enough reasons to feast even while fasting.

Décor: In naming the restaurant 'Dhaba', the operators of The Claridges, the hotel which houses it, were absolutely correct. It is indeed like a roadside eatery, but with a refined spin. So while one wall maps the road journey to The Claridges, the other is adorned with a set of Pickle Martabans and the next showcases antique black/rusty lunch boxes. With so many familiar things around (these are the ones you grew up seeing at your own home), you'll feel at home as you savour a great meal in its casual and relaxed atmosphere. Right from the time you enter till you sit on the rustic wooden chairs and are offered the food, the place sends out a strong desi vibe. A black entrance gate, natural flooring, thatched ceiling and a bhompu emphasise the restaurant's desi feel. And with popular old Bollywood tracks (especially from the 50s) being played, who wouldn't want to return to the place?

Food: Since we were following the rituals of Navratri, we asked only for the items which can be eaten while fasting. The Navratri thali comprised Kuttu ki Puri, Vrat Veggies, Arbi ki Subzi, dahi and papad. While the deep-fried puri was crispy, Arbi ki sabzi was bland much like it is expected to be for those fasting. From all the food items offered in the Thali, Aloo Ki Tikki was a clear winner. Since we insisted on having vegetarian fare, we also tried their Baingan ka Bharta, Dal Makhani, both truly delectable! Try them and you'd want to come back to the restaurant multiple times.

Service: The staff didn't take too long in explaining us the menu, the best it offers and signature dishes we should definitely try. The service is quick, efficient and commendable.

Our opinion: If good food is what you are looking for, Dhaba should be the only option.
