Taimur Ali Khan: What Does Kareena Kapoor-Saif Ali Khan's Son's Name Mean?

Oh, celebrities. They're always amusing us with their acting prowess, their funny statements and also their equally interesting baby names. So when filmmaker Karan Johar took to Twitter to congratulate stars Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan today as they welcomed their first baby, the name which he mentioned - Taimur Ali Khan - in his tweet had to trend.

While their fans wait to get the first glimpse of the prince, one thing is clear – he has already been put in the spotlight, courtesy his unique name. Much like other celebrities, Kareena and Saif have also come up with a name for their baby which is both unique and creative.

Out of curiosity, we googled the name.

And here’s what we found.

As mentioned on Wikipedia, Taimur bin Feisal was the sultan of Muscat and Oman from 5 October 1913 to 10 February 1932.

“He was born at Muscat and succeeded his father Faisal bin Turki, Sultan of Muscat and Oman as Sultan,” reads Wikipedia.

According to Wikipedia, Timur was historically referred to as Tamerlane.

In another reference on Wikipedia, Temür Öljeytü Khan was born Temür.

Apart from Emperor of China, he is considered as the sixth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire or Mongols, although it was only nominal due to the division of the empire. He was an able ruler of the Yuan, and his reign established the patterns of power for the next few decades. His name means "blessed iron Khan" in the Mongolian language. Temür was a son of the Crown Prince Zhenjin and the grandson of Kublai Khan. During his rule, the Tran, Pagan, and Champa dynasties and western khanates of the Mongol Empire accepted his supremacy,” reads Wikipedia.

As soon as the name was announced, the internet exploded. According to Twitter user Ashish Maharishi, “Taimur is a not an Arabic name, but rather a name from the Turkish language, and its means an ‘iron’ or an extremely strong substance.”

In another tweet by Urban Dictionary, Taimur is referred to as “brave king”.

Kareena delivered the baby on Tuesday morning at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

A statement released on behalf of the actors read, "We are very pleased to share with you all the wonderful news about the birth of our son : Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, on December 20, 2016."
