Zara is one such brand that has made its way right into the hearts of people almost ever since it started gaining momentum way back in time. Even though it has created a fair share of controversy over different things from time to time the brand’s worldwide reach and approach towards fast fashion appealed to the masses. However, this Spanish brand is receiving major backlash at the moment because of an ad campaign that they launched recently.
Titled ‘The Jacket’, the advertisement as netizens claim is highly reminiscent of the Gaza genocide. Internet users are offended at how the branding order to show the usage, durability and versatility of a jacket has created imageries that are parallel to the genocide that shook the world.

Social media sites are flooded with posts about how this advertisement is extremely offensive. While an X user wrote, “New low. Our pain isn’t for sale” another wrote, “How disgusting the world we live in,
How disgusting humans are when there is no humanity.”

Netizens are highly perturbed by the sensibility, thoughts and values that the brand holds and are triggered by how they chose marketing over trying to understand the tragedies that were faced during the Genocide.
Disgusting! Zara has no sense of humanity. Mocking the tragedies of victims for marketing, unbelievable. #boycottZara #Strike_for_Gaza pic.twitter.com/hJHJwXa1g7— ✌️ (@Malcolm_Gazza) December 11, 2023
Certain pictures in the advertisement were images that showed attires close to that of an Islamic burial outfit and also featured an upside-down map of Palestine. Some of the pictures had wooden boxes as the backdrop which is directly reminiscent of coffins. Despite the heavy criticism, Zara has still not issued a public response or an apology.
