Alia Bhatt has come a long way in showbiz, with rich content-driven and commercial films to her credit. The actress has also been making heads turn globally with her second appearance at the MET Gala. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about her biggest inspirations, which have allowed her to keep going with her work against all odds.
While speaking to Harper’s Bazaar India, the Raazi actress was asked to name some Indian and global icons that served as an inspiration to her. The actress then mentioned Kate Winslet and praised her for her “incredible range and resilience.” She further expressed her love for Taylor Swift. Appreciating her, she said, she transforms all experiences into “heartfelt music.”
Talking about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Alia called her an inspiration and added that she craved her own path and made heads turn globally at a time when nobody even dared to or even had it in their thoughts.
She also gushed and praised her sister-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and went on to call her “iconic in every way.” She also admired Shreya Ghoshal, saying that ‘every word and rhythm was enhanced by her voice’. She then concluded, saying, “These women embrace their journeys with such élan and ease—that authenticity is what I aim to bring to my roles.”
This year’s Met Gala was no different, with Alia stunning in a saree by Sabyasachi. Interestingly, Alia’s traditional attire received the loudest cheers on the Met Gala red carpet. International paparazzi couldn’t contain their excitement as she posed. Needless to say, her look was loved by fans and her family, including her mother-in-law Neetu Kapoor and sister-in-law Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.
Beyond her fashion choices, Alia also embraced her Indian culture by warding off the evil eye in a quintessential desi way. She applied a kajal dot behind her ear, a traditional practice. It can be seen in a photo where she faces away from the camera.
During her red carpet interview with Vogue, Alia expressed her excitement to represent India in a saree. “I’m feeling great. I’m feeling very excited. Months of preparation, lots of conversations, and all that builds up to this one moment. It’s so surreal, but it’s also very special. It’s my second time at the Met, but my first time wearing a saree. When I thought of the dress code, ‘Garden of Time’, I felt it needed something timeless, and there’s nothing timeless than a saree,” Alia told Vogue.
Meanwhile, on the film front, Alia will soon be seen in Jigra. The film is directed by Vasan Bala and jointly produced by Alia and Karan Johar. She has also signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
