Cinematographer Ragesh Narayanan Makes Directorial Debut With Thanupp, Set For October 4 Release

Cinematographer Ragesh Narayanan is making his directorial debut with Thanupp, produced by Anu Ananthan and Dr Lakshmi. Thanupp will be released at the cinema halls on October 4. Recently, Ragesh unveiled the film’s trailer on the YouTube channel – Manorama Music Songs. The trailer gives a glimpse of a love story between the debutants Jibiya and Nidheesh Nambiar. As the trailer proceeds further, social media users see Jibiya and Nidheesh’s characters trying to hide something from the people living in the locality. The trailer shows both characters tensed about the secret being revealed to everyone. In the final glimpse of the trailer, both Jibiya and Nidheesh’s characters are immersed in the water together, leaving the viewers guessing for more. The trailer has garnered more than 2 Lakh views and counting. Bibin Ashok has scored the film’s music for the lyrics penned by Vivek Muzhakkunnu.

Social media users lauded the trailer and dropped heart emoticons in the comment section. One of the users commented, “The trailer is very intriguing. Will definitely watch the film. Looking forward to the new age Malayalam cinema." Another added, “Wow, this trailer has me on the edge of my seat! The tension is intense and they’re giving just enough without revealing too much. I’m already trying to piece together the mystery—can’t wait to see how it all unfolds! Definitely looks like a mind-bending thriller."

Other crew members associated with Thanupp are the cinematographer Manikandan P S and the editor Safder Merva. Vivek Muzhakkunnu penned the song’s lyrics.

Ragesh has not revealed any details about the plot of Thanupp on social media.

Apart from this film, Ragesh last worked as a cinematographer for Neeraja, directed by Rajesh K Raman. This film stars Shruti Ramachandran, Kottayam Ramesh, Guru Somasundaram, Sajin Cherukayil and others. Backed by Suraj Production, this film was released at the cinema halls on June 2, 2023. Based on a widow, mentally ill, Neeraja received mixed reviews from the audience. Singer Mridula Varier was nominated for the South Indian International Movie Awards under the best playback singer-female for this film.
