'Farah Ki Daawat' review: Not an unwatchable show, but a turn off for food enthusiasts
'Farah Ki Daawat' review: Not an unwatchable show, but a turn off for food enthusiasts
Will 'Farah Ki Daawat' turn out to be an informative and engaging show?

New Delhi: Let's be honest: while there is a huge variety of reality shows available on the small screen, there is also a dearth of good cooking shows that can help us prepare great meals. Just when we are struggling to find a show that offers best cooking tips of all time, the best culinary experience and the most apt coaching to all those aspiring to be chefs, we get to watch filmmaker Farah Khan's new cookery show 'Farah Ki Daawat'.

But before we begin to discuss if it is an absolute worst or irrefutable best, let us find out if there was really a need to launch a show that only tries best to score some points by making celebrity guests show their culinary skills and earns TRPs via idiotic fun? Not really!

To begin with, the title of the show 'Farah Ki Daawat' isn't appropriate. If the first episode that featured Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan as the guest is anything to go by, 'Farah Ki Shararat' could have done justice to the show's format.

We know that Farah is close to almost all stars in the showbiz industry. And it's nothing but the understanding that she shares with all celebrities that gives her the leverage to poke fun at them. But to have a fan say 'Abhishek Bachchan toh filmon mei itna pakata hai, toh show mei bhi paka lega' on national TV is too cruel. So yes, while Farah teased Abhishek by saying 'kitna gharelu ho gaya hai', 'apron looks cute on you' and have fans pass comments, nobody felt embarrassed, and we know not even Abhishek felt a bit mortified either.

As a 'jawaan sizzling host', Farah Khan looked a bit repetitive. She was recently seen in 'Bigg Boss 8' and did what she is good at - cutting up and keeping the discussion with Junior B and Sargun Mehta flowing with amusement.

While Abhishek referred to cooking as an effective way to de-stress, and expanded his fan base by sharing an interesting tip - chewing a gum while chopping onions can help one avoid moist eyes- we aren't sure if his failure at preparing the dough can go unnoticed. Barring the dish that Abhishek prepared, what was really amusing about his participation was the bond he shares with Farah, what he prefers to eat and his phobia from fruits.

But will 'Farah Ki Daawat' turn out to be an informative and engaging show? Will it help the viewers to rustle up super-quick recipes? Will it allow untrained cooks and aspiring chefs think of creative recipes? Will it delve deeper into ethnic and untouched cuisines? Since the show only make one know their favorite star a tad better, we aren't sure if the viewers will watch it for long. As we said earlier, 'Farah ki Dawaat' might just get lost among several shows that are being aired on TV if it doesn't have anything unique to offer.

What's your reaction?
