Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi actress, Smriti Khanna, recently opened up about her tumultuous past, revealing shocking details about her first marriage in an exclusive interview with ETimes. The actress, who is now active on social media, sharing vlogs and photos, recounted her early career days, marriage and subsequent separation.
Smriti Khanna tied the knot with Gautam Gupte in 2017, whom she met during the shoot of the popular TV serial.
Reflecting on her past, Smriti disclosed that she married her then-boyfriend of over five years at the age of 22-23, only to discover that he was involved in illegal activities, turning out to be a smuggler. Expressing her shock and betrayal, she stated, “He had cheated me. He had cheated me along with my entire family.” Recalling the strange behaviour of her husband, she revealed he never allowed her inside his house and kept her isolated from her enemies.
Grateful that she did not get involved in his alleged illegal activities, Smriti Khanna expressed regret for her failed first marriage, considering the divorce at a young age a significant shock. She admitted feeling ashamed for not focusing on her career or studies during that time.
After the separation, Smriti started receiving opportunities for advertisements and TV serials following her portfolio shoot. While in Mumbai, she found herself in a toxic and abusive relationship, eventually leading her to leave the city due to threatening messages from her boyfriend. Despite the hardships, she made her debut in the TV industry with the show It’s Complicated in 2013 on Channel V.
In a twist of fate, Smriti Khanna’s career took a positive turn when she landed roles in Punjabi movies, notably featuring in Jatt Airways in 2013. Her impressive performance caught the attention of casting directors, leading to opportunities in TV serials, where she gained recognition for her sharp face and jawline, securing various negative roles.
