South actress Ruhani Sharma, known for films like HIT: The First Case and Nootokka Jillala Andagadu, was at the centre of online trolling after her latest release, Agra, leaked online. The actress received a lot of criticism for her intimate scenes in the film, which prompted her to release a statement expressing her disappointment. Ruhani Sharma took to Instagram to share a lengthy statement, addressing the extensive backlash for her film appearance. She expressed her disappointment and heartbreak the film’s leak caused her with its disregard, a project the team dedicated months to. She wrote, “Creating an art film is an intense journey filled with countless challenges, sleepless nights and unwavering commitment.” Ruhani called out those who were quick to judge the project, without acknowledging the hard work that went into it. Mentioning the accolades Agra has received worldwide, including a screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, the actress affirmed that they strive to push “boundaries of world cinema.” She stated, “I stand by my choices and I’m incredibly proud of this film and the entire team that made it happen,” asking the viewers for respect towards filmmaking. Ruhani concluded her statement with an appeal to the audience to celebrate cinema, instead of tearing the artists down for their work.
Celebrities and netizens voice their support to the actress in the replies. Actress Lavanya Tripathi shared an encouraging message, “You go girl!” Shanvi Srivastava stated, “Brave choices are always great choices! Keep shining!” One netizen wrote, “More power to you. Good movie lovers support is always with you.” Another user stated, “Hope you and your crew get the justice you deserve.”
Agra is made under the direction of Kanu Behl, who is also credited as a co-writer for the project alongside Atika Chohan. The cast includes Mohit Agarwal, Priyanka Bose, Ruhani Sharma, Rahul Roy, Vibha Chibber and Sonal Jha. It is produced under the banners of Saregama India Ltd, UFO Production and O28 Films.
