Social media has invested a lot of energy to convince itself that The Boys’ Antony Starr (Homelander) will be starring in DC Studios’ live-action Booster Gold series, which is co-owned by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The debate emerged after the DC boss and Starr followed each other on Instagram. In an exclusive interview with ComicBook, Starr replied to speculation that he may play the title character in the Booster Gold TV series, which Gunn and Safran’s DC Studios confirmed for the Max streaming platform.
Starr told ComicBook, “Me and James just play golf,” though he added that he finds the filmmaker “amazing.” “I cannot wait to see what he does with the DC Universe,” Starr said, adding, “I think he’s a phenomenal director, producer and talent. He’s one of the biggest brands in the industry, so I’m excited to see what he cooks up.”
One of the fans’ favourite casting choices for Reverse Flash is Antony Starr, who played the ruthless Homelander in The Boys with great success. There have been long-standing requests for him to play the role. Some fans have been expressing this demand since 2019 and have even started a petition in 2022.
Without a question, Starr would be the ideal option for the part after introducing The Boys’ enemy in the most subdued yet intriguing way. With James Gunn reviving the whole DC Universe and new characters set to appear in live-action, fan demand for him to play the titular enemy has skyrocketed.
The Guardians trilogy actor Chris Pratt, Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), Dylan Playfair (Letterkenny) and Patrick Schwarzenegger — who portrays Golden Boy on The Boys spinoff Gen V — are among the other rumoured contenders for the role of Mike Carter aka Booster Gold. The first phase of the new DCU was revealed in 2023 by Gunn and Safran.
The two are in charge of several TV series, such as the Green Lantern series Lanterns; Paradise Lost, which tells the story of Wonder Woman’s home planet of Themyscira; and Booster Gold, which tells the story of a blonde-haired, blue-eyed scoundrel who poses as a superhero in the modern era by using futuristic technology.
These projects are on top of the DCU Batman feature The Brave and the Bold, the Superman spinoff film Supergirl and the Superman reboot (formerly titled Superman: Legacy).
