It is official, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is teaming up with Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt for a new film titled Love and War. The film reunites Bhansali and Kapoor after 17 years and marks the filmmaker’s first film with Kaushal. Bhansali reunites with Bhatt after the success of Gangubai Kathiawadi. The new film was announced on January 24. The film is slated to release on Christmas 2025. Since fans are awaiting new updates regarding the same, a recent report has surfaced which states Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be building a new set on Sunil Maidan in Film City, which has previously served as locations for Gangubai Kathiawad and Heeramandi.
A source shared the details with Mid-Day. They stated, “Over the next few months, the art and production design team will bring alive Bhansali sir’s imagination by creating miniature replicas of the prime sets, and get his approvals. The set construction will begin in full force after the monsoon, laying the foundation for a November shoot.”
The source continued, “Ranbir will kick off the shoot of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana this month. He will wrap up the epic saga in time, to dive into Bhansali sir’s ambitious piece. The lead actors will have a straight six-month shoot, from November to 2025 summer, for the film to make its Christmas 2025 release.”
The news of the film was shared by Kaushal on Instagram. The post featured the announcement along with Kaushal, Bhatt and Kapoor’s signatures. Sharing the post, Vicky wrote, “An eternal cinema dream has come true. ❤️✨ #SanjayLeelaBhansali #RanbirKapoor @aliaabhatt @prerna_singh6 @bhansaliproductions #LOVEandWAR.”
The news about the film comes a day after Pinkvilla reported that Kapoor and Bhansali were in talks for a project. “To set things straight, it’s an original love story and not, inshallah. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been very keen to take a step back from the period drama’s intense tone. He has been looking to make a love story, and this subject has been at the back of his mind for a while now. SLB feels this is the best time to make a love story and is very excited to tap this genre,” the source shared.
“Both Ranbir and Alia heard the narration and loved what they heard. While Alia has already signed the dotted lines, the talks with Ranbir are in the advanced stages,” the insider said before adding, “Vicky is of course excited to come on board SLB’s film and is figuring out his dates for the later part of the year. Once the dates are sorted, he will sign the dotted lines. Vicky has loved the subject.”
With Love and War, Ranbir and Vicky are reuniting on the big screen after Sanju and Ranbir and Alia are being paired together after Brahmastra.
