Sunny Leone became a popular name in India after her stint in Bigg Boss 5. Since then, the actress has proven her mettle and established a successful career for herself in Bollywood. However, before Sunny was a Hindi film actress, she also worked in the adult entertainment industry in the US. Sunny became quite popular but it was not just her who benefited from her success.
In the 2016 Canadian documentary, Mostly Sunny, the actress’ brother, Sandeep Vohra, revealed that he would sell her posters to his college friends. Sandeep said that he would put up signed, nude posters of Sunny in his room for his college friends to see and then buy from him.
He said in the film, “So I just turn around and start selling them to people. My buddies would be like, ‘Oh my God, give me a copy of that.’ What I’d purposely do is, I’d put one on my wall in a frame, right? And people were like, ‘Oh, please give it to me. I’ll give you $20.’ Sure, have it. Next day, another frame and another picture on the wall.” Clips from the film have resurfaced on Reddit and have gone viral.
Sunny Leone also recalled this in the viral clip and said, “When he was in college, the first few years, he’s like, ‘I need to make a couple extra bucks. So please sign nudes with some autographs so I can sell them at my fraternity.’ I was like okay, but don’t take anything less than $10 or $15 dollars of a signature. And I was like okay, so you’re making money off of me. And then I was like okay, fine.”
Sandeep also mentioned in the film that Sunny took his name to enter the adult entertainment industry. Sunny Leone’s real name is Karenjit Kaur. However, she called herself Sunny when her career began. Sandeep said that he was cool with it and Sunny told her she took the name because she couldn’t think of anything else in the moment.
Now, years later, Karenjit is known as Sunny Leone across Indian households. She has worked in several Bollywood films like Ragini MMS 2, One Night Stand, Jism 2 and Ek Paheli Leela among others.
She was recently seen in the 2023 Anurag Kashyap film, Kennedy, also starring Rahul Bhat in the lead. The film premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on 24 May and received an overwhelming response. The film is yet to be released in India.
Meanwhile, Sunny Leone is also a popular reality television host and is currently seen hosting the fifteenth season of the dating show Splitsvilla with Tanuj Virwani.
