The years of 2016 to 2019 saw some of the biggest releases in Indian cinema, that too made under a moderate budget. Specifically three releases are credited with having a huge impact on cinema and changing the course of the Indian film industry. Let’s get to know about these films. The three films were made under a very moderate to low budget and became the biggest hits of the decade, entering the list of some of the highest-grossing films ever. These films are Uri: The Surgical Strike, Dangal and Secret Superstar. The total budget of these films amounts to Rs 110 crore; and they were able to mint more than Rs 3000 crore in total at the box office.

Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

The film is made under the direction of debutant filmmaker Aditya Dhar, who was also credited as its writer. It is inspired from the events of the 2016 Uri attack. The cast included Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari, Rajit Kapur, Mohit Raina and more. Ronnie Screwvala produced the film under the banner of RSVP Movies. On a budget of Rs 25 crore, the film collected over Rs 342 crore.

Secret Superstar (2017)

The musical drama film is directed and written by Advait Chandan. It follows the journey of a young girl who aspires to become a singer, defying societal obstacles. The cast includes Aamir Khan, Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij and Raj Arjun. Produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Nitin Keni and Akash Chawla under the banners of Zee Studios and Aamir Khan Productions, the film had a budget of Rs 15 crore. It collected more than Rs 905 crore at the box-office.

Dangal (2016)

The blockbuster biographical sports drama was directed by Nitesh Tiwari. It starred Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Zaira Wasim and Sanya Malhotra. The film is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Siddharth Roy Kapur under the Aamir Khan Productions and Walt Disney Pictures India banners. It had a budget of Rs 70 crore and collected more than Rs 2000 crore at the box-office.
