Vijay Deverakonda and Ranveer Singh’s co-star Shalini Pandey opened up about being body-shamed in the film industry. The actress made her debut with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Arjun Reddy and was then seen in Ranveer’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar. While Shalini has undergone a transformation since her debut, the actress revealed she was subjected to body-shaming when she started her career. She added that her ex-manager also took advantage of her naive nature.
“I was really body-shamed back then. Also, since I was new and down South, I didn’t understand the language, and my managers at the time just took advantage of my naivety and made me do things,” Shalini told India Today. The Maharaj actress added, “I was constantly trying to understand what people wanted from me,” she said. She added how she was body-shamed and, being a person who has always been into sports, she had an athletic body. “Even now, I get shamed by people.”
Shalini had revealed she ‘ran away’ from home to pursue acting. In an earlier media interaction, Shalini detailed her struggling days’ journey. She said, “My papa wanted me to do engineering. I even tried it, but I wasn’t able to do it. And my papa just wouldn’t agree to let me try acting.” She revealed that she tried to convince her father for four years and eventually made the decision to run away. Speaking further, she added, “Now it seems like a joke but at that time it was very difficult. So I ran away.”
When she finally arrived in Mumbai, she had nowhere to go. Even though two of her friends lived in the city, she could not stay at their place for some reason. Due to that she had to share a place with boys. Later in an interview, she revealed that those boys eventually became her family. Even after becoming an actress, she considers their friendship to be very special.
