WCC Member Sajitha Madathil Questions Mammootty's Silence Over Malayalam MeToo: 'It Is Very Sad'
Sajitha Madathil also says that instead of resigning from AMMA, Mohanlal should have "worked towards resolving the issues and supporting the victims."

Actress Sajitha Madathil, who is also one of the founding members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), has questioned superstar Mammootty’s silence over the ongoing sexual harassment allegations in the Malayalam film industry. Recently, the actress spoke to Hindustan Times when she slammed Mohanlal for resigning from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and called it an attempt to “avoid responsibility”.

“I can say there could be multiple reasons for their resignation. One possibility is that they might want to evade from further discussion or public attention, possibly because they’re concerned about potential allegations that could arise against more members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). So, their resignation appears to be an attempt to avoid responsibility,” she said.

Sajitha Madathil shared that instead of resigning, Mohanlal should have “worked towards resolving the issues and supporting the victims.” She called his decision to step down “disappointing” and added, “It’s very sad. They are powerful people. Mohanlal is a respectable person in the industry. He should have taken the initiative to clear the situation.”

The WCC member then questioned Mammootty’s silence over the issue and said, “We were expecting that. Mammootty never spoke anything about it (Hema committee report). B. Unnikrishnan, actor-director and FEFKA leader, he too never talked about it, just issued a press release. Mammootty’s silence is also very sad.”

For the unversed, in the last few days, several actresses from the Malayalam film industry have come out to share their horrific stories of sexual harassment. Among others, a complaint has also been filed against CPI(M) MLA and actor Mukesh, actor Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu for sexual and verbal assault. Two FIRs have also been filed against filmmaker Ranjith.

It all started after the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report were made public earlier this month. In the wake of the same, Mohanlal also recently resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists. He and his 17-member executive committee submitted their joint resignation.
