Yesteryear actress Aruna Irani was once one of the most sought-after Bollywood divas, especially for negative roles. And she dominated headlines for her off-screen reasons just as much as for her on-screen avatar. Aruna Irani debuted in Bollywood at the tender age of nine with a Dilip Kumar film.
The actress, who made a name for herself in the industry, reportedly had affairs with two prominent names.
As per the reports, her name was associated with actor-filmmaker Mehmood during the early stages of her career. In an interview, she revealed that when she was a newbie, nobody was willing to sign her for films. Mehmood was the only person who gave her work. She stated further that because of him she was able to afford a better lifestyle. She called him a “God-sent angel.”
Talking about their relationship, she admitted that they were “more than friends”. She added that despite knowing he was a married man, she started to like him. The fact that Mehmood was married, their relationship could not go further, the actress stated.
Aruna Irani is married to filmmaker Kuku Kohli. Interestingly, when the couple tied the knot, Kuku was already married. After marrying him, she did not publicly reveal that they were a married couple, as he was still married to his first wife. She stated, “My affair, my relationship with Kuku Kohli was not there to hurt anybody or snatch away somebody.” After the demise of Kuku Kohli’s first wife, Rita, she slowly started to get public with her marriage, she added.
Aruna Irani debuted in the film industry with the 1961 film Ganga Jamuna starring Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala and Nasir Khan. Some of her most popular works include the films Bombay To Goa, Farz, Bobby, Rocky and more.
