Yami Gautam has been making waves following the release of her latest movie, Article 370, on Friday, February 23. Critics and audiences alike have been praising her exceptional performance in the movie. From her breakout role in Vicky Donor to her roles in impactful films like Uri and now Article 370, Yami has consistently showcased her versatility in the industry. In a recent interview, she shed light on her criteria for selecting film projects and how she navigates her choices in the industry.
Discussing her approach to selecting films, Yami shared with India Today, “It’s mostly my gut and intuition. But sometimes, your voice gets drowned out by fear, suggesting you should pursue certain kinds of films, projects, music, or work with specific actors or stars. When surrounded by these voices, it’s important to remember they’re just perspectives. Whoever you meet will always have advice to give you.”
Yami Gautam further said she had to gather herself to return to the person who commenced her career with a film like Vicky Donor. “If I had to tell you the logline for Vicky Donor, you would say, ‘Please go home!’ So, I had to back myself, be comfortable with my choices, and focus on what I want to be relevant,” she mentioned.
The mom-to-be added that she completely enjoys every step of her journey. Reflecting on her career of more than a decade, she said, “It has been a journey and that period is also very important in life to realize what not to do. To realize this is not who you are, it is very important and those are my experiences and that is my journey.”
Yami Gautam highlighted the challenges in life and the importance of finding joy and motivation in one’s pursuits. She emphasised her willingness to prioritise quality over quantity in her choice of film projects, stating that she would rather have no work than compromise her artistic integrity by accepting roles simply for the sake of employment. “Again another out of sight is out of mind which is also true, but what are you being in sight for, what am I watching you for, that is important as well,” she said.
On the personal front, Yami Gautam and filmmaker husband Aditya Dhar are expecting their first child. Yami is currently in the second trimester of the pregnancy. This marks an exciting new chapter in their lives as they prepare to welcome their bundle of joy into the world after three years of marriage. Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar tied the knot in June 2021.
