A woman’s body was found in a suitcase near a metro railway construction site in Central Mumbai’s Kurla, police said. The body was discovered around 12:30 pm after the Mumbai police were informed of an abandoned suitcase lying on the CST Road in Shanti Nagar.
The discovery was made after the police — around 1 pm — were informed about a suitcase lying abandoned on the CST Road at Shanti Nagar, where work for a metro project is underway, an official said.
Police reached the spot only to discover the woman’s body inside the suitcase. Thereafter, the body was sent to Ghatkopar’s Rajawadi Hospital for an autopsy. However, the woman is yet to be identified, they said.
“The woman has not been identified yet, but looking at the body, it is being estimated that her age could be between 25-30 years, the woman was wearing a T-shirt and track pants,” they noted.
In their probe, police are also examining the CCTV footage of the cameras installed in the area.
Officials said that a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 302 (murder) has been registered, adding that the search to find the killer is on.
Mumbai Police along with the Crime Branch is further investigating the case.
In October, the body of a 19-year-old student was stuffed in suitcase with a tape over his mouth on Friday in Kolkata, police said. The body was found under a cot in the rented accommodation at Mahishabathan in the city’s New Town area.
The deceased — Sajid Hossain — had been missing since October 4 and his mobile number was found to be unreachable.
However, after he went missing, Hossain’s parents got a phone call demanding a ransom of Rs 30 lakh, after which his father filed a complaint and police began its investigation.
Hossain’s body was found by officials based on a tip-off. Four persons were detained in connection to the teen’s death.
Then in September this year, a married man killed his 28-year-old live-in partner in Maharashtra’s Vasai and dumped her body in Gujarat’s Valsad.
The body of the victim was found packed in a suitcase in a creek at Valsad.
Earlier the victim’s sister had filed a missing complaint at Naigaon police station, alleging that the accused — Manohar Shukla — and his wife killed her sister, packed her body in a suitcase and disposed of it in Vapi to erase any traces of murder.
Shukla, already married, was also in a relationship with the victim.
An FIR under IPC Section 302 (murder) was registered at the Naigaon police station. Shukla was arrested by the police, while his wife was detained.
