India outclassed Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the freezing cold weather of Mohali on Thursday. Axar Patel, who took two wickets in the match, is hoping to put on good performances for India in the upcoming matches.
The allrounder talked about his thought process while bowling in the tough conditions of Mohali.
“The wicket was not helping and weather was also quite cold, so I was just wondering how can I give my best in these conditions. I decided to bowl in one area and let the batter take a chance. My mindset right now is about using the variations which has increased my confidence. Now I am not just thinking about being economical with ball,” Axar said.
Improved Bowling
Axar was forced to miss out on a lot of cricket recently including the World Cup due to an injury.
Talking about his journey from getting injured to making a comeback, the 29-year-old said he used that time to improve his bowling.
“It was an unfortunate injury, but it was not the first time I was injured. I took that time positively. I thought that I can improve my game more now. So when I was at NCA, I was working on my bowling. I bowled a lot of slower ones against Australia and used my crease well. I thought what else can I add in my bowling. As an off-spinner you don’t have much variations as a leg spinner have googly and other things. So I was just working on adding 5 to 10% more in my bowling at the NCA,” the left-arm spinner said.
Rohit or Pandya?
Axar talked about playing under two different captains, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma, saying that there is not much difference between the two.
“There is no difference. Both have given me freedom. They tell me to execute my plan first. They know my strengths and they allow me to set my own field. And if my plans doesn’t work, they interfere. So, as a player I really didn’t find any difference,” said Axar.
