Delhi Police has arrested a man and a woman and apprehended three minor boys in connection with the gang rape case of a 12-year-old girl in the city’s Sadar Bazar area. The girl, a resident of Bawana, was allegedly lured by the woman, who took her to a secluded location, where the other four raped her, according to police.
The heinous crime took place on January 1. However, it was reported to police on Thursday after which a case under section 376D (gangrape) and other relevant sections of the law was immediately registered and all the five accused were held, Hindustan Times reported quoting Manoj Kumar Meena, Deputy commissioner of police (north), as saying.
The accused have been identified as 38-year-old Suresh Kumar, who sells tea in North Delhi’s Sadar Bazar slum cluster and the woman as Beauty, a resident of the same locality, along with three minors, aged 12, 14 and 15 years, whose names have not been disclosed.
According to a senior police officer, the victim works as a waste picker. She knew Beauty, who used to earlier live in Bawana and also picked waste for a living.
On January 1, when the victim was alone at Sadar Bazar, Beauty came to meet her. She lured the minor to an isolated place where the four other suspects were waiting, who then raped the girl, the officer said.
As per the report, Beauty threatened the victim to not reveal the incident to anyone.
After the incident, the girl managed to clean herself up and boarded a train to Bawana. She reportedly remained quiet for the next two days. On Thursday, she again went to Sadar Bazar to pick up waste, where she met her cousin who lives in the same locality and confided in her.
The cousin informed the minor’s parents–both labourers–about the incident, following which all of them went to the police station, where the girl narrated her ordeal to police, the investigator said.
Police immediately constituted a team and all suspects were nabbed within hours of the matter being reported.
“We suspect that the accused gave Beauty some money to bring a girl for them. She spotted the victim and lured her to them,” the HT reported quoted the officer as saying.
