The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has declared the result of the Graduate Aptitude Test For Engineering at its official website, gate.iitb.ac.in. The total count of candidates who appeared for GATE 2021 examination was 7,11,542. Of these, a total of 1,26,813 candidates qualified, i.e., about 17.82%.

The percentage of qualified candidates in individual papers varies from 8.42% to

29.54%. Out of the total qualified candidates of GATE 2021, 98732 are male and 28081 are female candidates, informed IIT-Bombay.

The official GATE 2021 Scorecard can be downloaded from the GOAPS portal between March 30 to June 30, 2021. Candidates will be able to do check their detailed individual scores once, the scorecard window opens.

Based on GATE score candidates can seek admission in MTech courses across IITs, IISc, and other colleges. Also, the GATE score is the entry gateway for PSU jobs. GATE score is valid for three years from the date of declaration.

Now, that the result is declared for the further rounds for both MTech admissions and PSUs candidates will have to appear for interview rounds. The personality test or interview rounds will be different for both college admissions and jobs in terms of questions asked and subject-knowledge and aptitude requirements.

The result was scheduled to be released on March 22 but is announced ahead of its time, as reported by news18.com earlier.

A total of 8,82,684 candidates had applied for the exam this year, a slight increase from 8.59 lakh last year. The rise was also because of the introduction of two new courses in GATE 2021. This year, the humanities students were also allowed to appear for the exam in which 14,196 students had applied.

GATE 2021 was held on February 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14, It was held amid COVID-precautions. This year, two new exams were added to the list of papers taking the total paper tally to 27. The new subjects added were – ES (Environmental Science and Engineering) and XH (Humanities and Social Sciences) in Economics / English / Linguistics / Philosophy / Psychology / Sociology. Further, the syllabi of all the subjects were revised this year. The pattern of the paper too was changed to add multiple select questions (MSQs) to the numerical answer type and multiple-choice questions.

Eligibility criteria for GATE 2021 too were relaxed as it allowed candidates studying in the third year or higher of their undergraduate degree programmes to apply for teh course. Apart from science stream candidates, students from commerce and arts stream were also allowed to appear for the exam. The exam conducting institute this year was IIT-Bombay.
