IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma Narrowly Misses Fifty in Semifinal After Kane Williamson Takes Stunning Catch | WATCH
Rohit Sharma narrowly missed his half century, his scored a blistering fast 29-ball 47 to help India to an explosive start against New Zealand in the World Cup 2023 semifinal.

Rohit Sharma was at his blistering best against New Zealand in the World Cup 2023 semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, November 15. Rohit won the toss and opted to bat first against the Kiwis, continuing his blazing-fast start. On multiple occasions, the Indian captain missed out on half-centuries in his attempts to put pressure on opposition bowlers in the batting powerplay with a flurry of boundaries.

A similar scenario unfolded in Mumbai during the semifinal clash as Rohit put the likes of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson under pressure smashing 47 runs in just 29 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes.

The Hitman was dismissed by Southee eventually as New Zealand captain Kane Williamson plucked a wonderful catch to end the Indian captain’s stay in the middle. Rohit played with a blistering strike rate of 162.07, helping India post a total of 84 runs in the first ten overs.

Rohit stitched together a 71-run partnership with Shubman Gill, wherein the 36-year-old continued to smash big shots left right and centre, giving his young partner time to set himself up, and once the captain was dismissed, Gill continued the onslaught on New Zealand bowlers.

In the ninth over of India’s inning, Rohit was dismissed on the second ball having not gotten the best timing behind a good length delivery from Southee. The ball ballooned high in the air, with Williamson calling for it, the New Zealand skipper covered considerable distance before taking the catch and falling on his back but held onto the ball for dear life to pick up a crucial first wicket.
