After suffering enough humiliation in the first game, India will be keen to secure the second Test to level the two-match series. The second Test is slated to be played at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town from January 3.
The Indian team touched down in South Africa with the hope of registering their first-ever Test series win in the Rainbow Nation. The visitors, however, have made a disappointing start to the assignment, losing the opening Test by an innings and 32 runs. India batted first and managed to produce 245 runs, riding on a centurion knock from KL Rahul. Among others, only Virat Kohli could spend a significant period at the crease, scoring 38 off 64 balls.
South Africa took full advantage of the home conditions, with opener Dean Elgar spearheading the batting attack. The Proteas opener played a gritty 185-run knock, laced with 28 boundaries. Debutant David Bedingham also demonstrated his batting prowess and notched a commendable half-century.
In the end, Marco Jansen scored an unbeaten 84, helping South Africa reach a mammoth 408 runs. During their second innings, India had a batting collapse, with Kohli being the only standout batter. He made 76 off 82 balls but the efforts were not enough to change the course of the game.
