Punjab: Khalistani Outfit SFJ Claims Responsibility of 'Rocket Launcher' Attack; DGB Says Not Ruling Out Cross-Border Hand
The incident took place at around 1 AM, and as of now no loss of life has been reported.

A rocket launcher-type weapon was fired at the Sarhali Police Station in Punjab?s Tarn Taran district on Saturday night. A US-based Khalistani outfit, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) have taken responsibility for the attack, News18 sources said.

Punjab State Police Chief Gaurav Yadav confirmed that an FIR has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and that they are not ruling out ?cross border hand? in the attack. ?Our enemy is doing cowardly attacks,? he said.

According to preliminary investigation, a grenade was fired at around 11:22 PM last night and it hit the ?Suvidha Centre? of the police station, Yadav said.

The weapon could be a military-grade hardware and could have been smuggled from across the border, he added.

Following the incident, forensic teams, the Army squad and police teams have reached the scene and are collecting all evidences to reconstruct what happened.

?The forensic team will tell you what exactly it is. They are checking everything and they will tell you,? Prakash Singh, SHO, Sarhali Police Station told reporters.

No loss of life or injuries have been reported.

Some unidentified people fired the projectile at the police station located on the Amritsar-Bathinda highway in the border district, officials said.

The door glass of the police station was found to be broken and senior police officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation, PTI reported.

The attack has also damaged windows of a nearby service centre.

This comes after a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) was fired at the Punjab Police’s Intelligence headquarters in Mohali on May 9, triggering a blast at the site.

Punjab Police have arrested the main accused Charat Singh in a joint operation with Central Agency and ATS Maharashtra. Singh was one of Lakhbir Singh Landa’s main associates and hailed from the Tarn Taran district.

The Punjab DGP hailed the arrest as a major breakthrough by the department and confirmed that Charat Singh was a key operative and associate of Canada-based BKI terrorist Lakhbir Singh.

Earlier this week, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested the alleged mastermind ? Lakhbir Singh Landa ? in connection with RPG attack. The police said gangster Landa was also a resident of the Tarn Taran district and shifted to Canada in 2017.
