'Since T20 WC Semis 2022 Defeat, Rohit Sharma Spearheaded a Shift in India's Batting Approach': Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan, who was also an inspirational captain for England in the 2019 edition, said that under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India are embracing an aggressive style of play.

England 2019 World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan hailed Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the ongoing World Cup as he has led the Indian team from the front to the final of the tournament. Rohit has been an inspirational leader for the Men in Blue as they are the only unbeaten side in the tournament thus far in the ongoing edition.

Morgan talked highly of the Indian team for winning 10 matches in a row as star players Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami are also leading the most runs and wickets charts respectively.

“India, unbeaten in all ten matches, has been a revelation in this tournament. With Virat Kohli leading the run charts and Mohammed Shami as the leading wicket-taker, the team’s performance has been nothing short of incredible,” he wrote in his column for ICC, highlighting the standout contributions from key players.

Follow all the action from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 including the World Cup schedule, World Cup 2023 results, and ICC Cricket World Cup points table. Players are vying to top the World Cup 2023 Most Runs and World Cup 2023 Most Wickets charts.

Morgan pointed out that after India’s semi-final exit in the T20 WC last year, Rohit’s leadership and aggressive approach have helped the team which can be seen in their performances in the ongoing ICC event.

“Since the T20 World Cup semi-final defeat in Adelaide against England last year, Rohit has spearheaded a shift in the team’s batting approach,” he added.

Morgan, who was also an inspirational captain for England in the 2019 edition, said that under Rohit’s captaincy, India are embracing an aggressive style of play.

“No longer content with merely accumulating runs, India now embrace an intimidating, aggressive style of play under his leadership,” he added.

The Indian skipper has been in sensational form this World Cup and has scored 550 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 124.15.  His aggressive batting in the powerplays has allowed the other batters to take some time to get set.

Morgan suggested that it will be interesting to see if India and Rohit and India will apply to play with the same mindset and approach in the final of the World Cup.

“Rohit’s personal transformation is evident in his strike rate, soaring from a career average of 102 to an impressive 124 in this World Cup. The question now is whether India can maintain this mindset and apply the same methodology in the final,” he said.
