New Delhi: After Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and party President Sonia Gandhi's rallies in Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address a rally in Raipur on Saturday to bolster support for Congress Chief Ministerial candidate Ajit Jogi. Security has been heightened across the state, particularly in the Maoist-affected Bastar region ahead of the visit.

The first phase of polling for the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections starts on Monday. Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at the Raman Singh government in Chhattisgarh over the killings of party's top leaders in a Naxal attack in May, 2013. He said that nobody could have stopped slain state Congress president Nand Kumar Patel from becoming the next chief minister of the state and death was the only way.

"Nand Kumar Patel would have become the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and no body could have stopped him. The only way to stop him was to kill him," said Rahul Gandhi during an election campaign for the Congress in Rajnandgoan.

He said that the BJP talks about terrorism but did nothing when the entire Congress leadership was massacred in Chhattisgarh.

"The BJP is in the power in state from the last 10 years, few months ago the entire leadership of Congress in state was eliminated and the government said that it was not responsible. It kept quite," said Rahul.

The Chhattisgarh Naxal attack in May left over 25 people dead. PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla and former MLA Uday Mudaliyar were among those who were killed in the attack.
