The Mumbai Police on Sunday said it is probing all angles in connection with the Baba Siddique murder case and said the angles of Lawrence Bishnoi and Salman Khan along with other angles are also being probed.
It said that Shiv Kumar alias Shiva Gautam was the one who fired his gun. Police said Shiv Kumar is still absconding but they need Gurmail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap, who accompanied him, and presented them before a Mumbai court.
“Shiv Kumar fired at Baba Siddiqui, while Dharmraj was carrying chili spray. However, before he could use it, Shiv had already opened fire. Three constables were present with Baba at the time but failed to do anything,” DCP crime branch Datta Nalawade said.
“Two accused were detained on the spot. Two pistols and 28 rounds have been recovered. We have the custody of the accused till October 21. We are investigating the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s role in the case. Baba Siddique did not have a categorised security but three security personnel were given to him,” Nalawade further added.
Reacting to the social media post where the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder, the police official said: “We are investigating the authenticity of the said post on social media claiming the responsibility of the incident”.
Claiming responsibility on social media, a Facebook account under the name Shubuu Lonkar posted, “Salman Khan, we didn’t want this war, but you wronged our brother”, the Times of India said in a report.
“Baba Siddique’s chapter has closed today, or he was once under the MCOCA Act with Dawood. The reason for his death is Anuj Thapan and Dawood, who were to be linked with Bollywood, politics, and property dealings. We have no enmity with anyone, but whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang will have to settle their accounts,” the post said.
“Baba Siddique didn’t have a categorised security but he was given 3 security personnel from Mumbai police. At the time of the incident, one of our security personnel was there with him,” the police official said.
He further added that the Mumbai Police are in touch with the local police of their native places to see if they had any earlier police records.
Two youths involved in the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique hail from the same village in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. Both men, from ordinary families with no prior criminal records, were identified by police on Sunday. The accused, Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shiv Kumar alias Shiva Gautam, are residents of Gandara village in Bahraich. Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla confirmed while speaking to news agency PTI that both were working at a scrap shop in Pune, Maharashtra, and had no criminal background in Bahraich.
A separate report by the news agency pointed out that Haryana-resident Gurmail Baljit Singh, accused of being one of the shooters who killed NCP leader Baba Siddique and now in police custody, has a prior criminal history, including a murder case against him.
Siddique (66) was waylaid by three men at Kher Nagar in Mumbai’s Bandra area just outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office and shot at on Saturday night. He was taken to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where he was declared dead.
