BJP slams Jaiswal's 'remote control CM' remark
Sriprakash Jaiswal's reportedly said the next UP CM will be from Congress whose 'remote will be in Rahulji's hands'.

New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday took strong exception to Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal's reported remark that the next UP Chief Minister will be from Congress whose "remote will be in Rahulji's hands", saying that the constitutional posts should be spoken of with respect.

"Chief Minister's post is a constitutionally provided post...where is the respect for the institution when words like remote-control are used," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said at a press conference here.

"The Congress which claims to respect important institutions should give an explanation (regarding the comments)," she said.

Jaiswal, senior Congress leader and Union Coal Minister, had earlier in the day said that Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the party campaign in UP, would monitor the functioning of the party's next government in the state.

"Whoever becomes Chief Minister, the remote will be in Rahulji's hands," he had reportedly said.

Speaking about the BJP's chances in the first phase of the Assembly polls in UP, Sitharaman said the party would manage around 40 seats in the first phase itself.

She also attacked Congress over alleged irregularities in Jammu and Kashmir Education minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed's foster son's examination answer-sheets.

"Will Sonia Gandhi explain whether she will have this man as a part of the party further or will the Congress party throw him out," Sitharaman asked.
